REVEALED: Chelsea failed with bid for Portimonense controlling stake

Chelsea have made an attempt to buy Portuguese outfit Portimonense, it has been revealed.

O Jogo reports the Londoners offered €40m for 75 per cent of Portimonense. But it was rejected.

A club source said, "Portimonense is not for sale, it is the decision of the shareholders."

The proposal to Portimonense was for an initial €40m - which could reach €50m based on performance - to sell 75 per cent of the club.

It's since emerged Chelsea are now in talks about buying a stake in French club Strasbourg.
