Chelsea are now very close to announcing the signing of Enzo Fernandez from Benfica.
The Blues have now agreed a payment structure worth over £112million in principle with the Portuguese side.
The west London side are keen on bringing in new faces this month and have already agreed a deal with Monaco for Benoit Badiashile.
Benfica have been adamant the Argentine World Cup winner will only leave if his £106m release clause is paid in full even after the midfielder already agreed personal terms with the club.
Now Sky Sport Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio reports that talks are now at an advanced stage with Chelsea owner, Todd Bohely ready to shatter the club’s transfer record.
The Blues’ owners have accepted to pay in excess of the young midfielder’s release clause but asked Benfica to accept the fee in a series of instalments over several years.
They will have to pay a total of £112million which has been agreed upon but will pay it in instalments in each of the next three transfer windows, with each payment totalling around £37m.
Paying all in at once would put the Londoners in the risk of breaching Financial Fair Play rules.
The last details of the deal are now being agreed and there is confidence from all parties that the transfer can be wrapped up quickly.
