Transfer: Chelsea open talks for Thuram’s signature as Man Utd suffer blow over Sommer pursuit

Chelsea have opened talks with Borussia Monchengladbach in a bid to sign their forward, Marcus Thuram.

This was disclosed by transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano in a tweet via his Twitter handle at the weekend.

Romano tweeted, “Chelsea consider Marcus Thuram as big opportunity on the market — with further talks to take place in the next days to discuss conditions and price tag for January.

“Thuram will consider all his options as he won’t extend his contract with Borussia and he’d be free in June.”

Meanwhile, Manchester United have suffered a transfer blow in their bid to sign Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper, Yann Sommer.

The Red Devils are keeping tabs on Sommer in this January transfer window amid doubts over their first-choice goalkeeper David de Gea’s future at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag’s side, though, are facing strong competition from Bayern Munich, who are looking for a shot-stopper to fill in for Manuel Neuer, who is currently injured.

But Borussia Monchengladbach director, Roland Virkus, has now insisted that the Switzerland international won’t be allowed to leave the club this month.

Virkus told the Rheinische Post: “We will not let Yann Sommer go in January. We have also informed Bayern.”
