World Cup: Great asset, we’re excited about him – Ronaldo hails Arsenal star

Ronaldo has said that Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli would be a major force at the 2026 World Cup.

The Selecao, who were tipped to clinch the trophy in Qatar, were knocked out in the quarter-final.

They suffered a penalty shootout defeat to Croatia and despite 120 minutes of play, coach Tite did not call upon Martinelli during the game.

The 21-year-old only started once in Qatar, being Brazil’s 1-0 defeat to Cameroon in their final group match.

Despite this, football legend Ronaldo de Lima is convinced the 21-year-old Arsenal forward has a very bright future ahead of him.

According to the former Real Madrid, Barcelona and AC Milan hero, Martinelli will play a far more prominent role at the next World Cup in 2026 for Brazil.

“He is definitely a great asset,” Ronaldo told Apostagolos

“He is developing wonderfully at Arsenal and showed his potential in the group stage in Qatar. He will certainly stand out at the 2026 World Cup.

“What impresses me the most is that he plays with a lot of passion and self-confidence. We’re excited about him.”
