EPL: You’ve suprised me – Zinchenko hails Gabriel Jesus’ replacement at Arsenal

Ukraine defender Oleksandr Zinchenko has told Arsenal teammate, Eddie Nketiah that he is full of surprises, describing the striker as an amazing player.

Zinchenko left Manchester City, where he won four league titles, four League Cups and the FA Cup, and joined Arsenal last summer

With the help of the 25-year-old Ukrainian, Arsenal are now challenging for the title and were five points clear at the top of the Premier League before the World Cup started.

Zinchenko has also backed Nketiah to step up and take over the Arsenal striker role left void by Gabriel Jesus’ injury as fears grow that the Gunners title bid could derail.

Jesus has impressed at Arsenal since he joined from Manchester City in a £50m move last summer but could be out for up to three months after sustaining a knee injury during Brazil’s World Cup campaign in Qatar.

But Zinchenko believes that ‘incredible’ Nketiah would step up in Jesus’ absence and says he has been ‘surprised’ by the striker’s ‘ability and quality’.

“Since I came here, [Nketiah] has been amazing,” Zinchenko told Sky Sports.

“Honestly, even watching him last season, I was surprised a lot because the ability and quality he has is incredible.

‘For sure, he’s going to help the team.”
