Newcastle defender Trippier: I've had Everton and Liverpool offers

Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier admits turning down Everton and Liverpool earlier in his career.

The summer of 2015 saw Trippier leave Burnley for Tottenham Hotspur but he's now revealed there was a chance he could have moved to Merseyside. In a new interview, he has explained how he had the chance to move to either Liverpool or Everton, and why he opted not to move to either club.

“I think it was the season after we (Burnley) got promoted (to the Premier League, there were a few clubs interested," Trippier told the Under the Cosh podcast.

“Tottenham obviously, Everton and Liverpool before they got Nathaniel Clyne as well, it was either me or him who was going to go to Liverpool.

“I only had a year left on my contract and (Sean) Dyche wanted me to sign a new deal with a release clause and I thought it made sense to play 38 games in the Premier League before getting that move."
