I rejected Man City despite Guardiola saying he loved me – Jules Kounde

Barcelona star Jules Kounde has revealed how he turned down a move to Manchester City despite manager Pep Guardiola telling him how much he ‘loved’ him.

He said the former Barcelona boss tried to persuade him to move to Manchester City.

The France international moved to Nou Camp from Sevilla over the summer after a protracted tug-of-war between the Catalan and Chelsea.

Chelsea owners were desperate to sign the defender and were said to have reached an agreement with Sevilla, but the Frenchman waited for Barcelona.

And now Kounde said he was also on Manchester City’s list a year before the Premier League champions signed Ruben Diaz.

Asked whether he’d had interest from Manchester City, Kounde said: “Yes, in my first year at Sevilla [the end of the 2019-20 season].

“He [Guardiola] called me. He told me that he loved me and that he thought I would fit the way he played.”
