Everton manager Lampard slams 'strange and disappointing' Maupay omission

Everton boss Frank Lampard was unhappy at being unable to field new signing Neil Maupay.

The Toffees have secured the former Brighton frontman late in the transfer window.

Lampard's side were desperate to sign a replacement for the injured Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Asked about Maupay not playing in the 1-1 draw with Leeds on Tuesday, Lampard told BBC: "It is paperwork, but is the rules as such. It was signed on Friday afternoon and they call it three non-working days because of the bank holiday.

"This is the Premier League, the game is being beamed around the world. We signed a player four days ago and played a game in the meantime.

"If matchday was tomorrow he could play. It feels strange and disappointing. It denies us options in the game. They had an injury and brought on a centre forward and then brought on another later in the game."
