EPL: He’s overpriced – Rio Ferdinand gives verdict on Man Utd’s latest signing

Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand, has hailed the club’s latest signing, Casemiro.

Manchester United confirmed on Friday that they had reached an agreement with Real Madrid for the signing of the Brazilian midfielder.

The Premier League giants reached an agreement with the LaLiga champions for Casemiro to move to Old Trafford in a deal worth £70 million.

Reacting, Ferdinand said Casemiro is overpriced but admitted that he is the kind of player Man United need.

“Wow, listen man… that is the type of player Man United need, the type of character Man United need more than anything,” Ferdinand said in a video posted on his YouTube channel.

“He is the type of person, individual. Is he overpriced? Yes.”

“The positives I will start with,” Ferdinand added.

“First and foremost, the guy’s a real winner, he knows how to win, he has been integral in everything positive about Real Madrid in recent years.

“[He has been] one of the main guys alongside the likes of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Karim Benzema.

“When the big games come along, this guy performs. He knows what he is doing, he is there.

“There’s no thrills with him. He isn’t a stepover merchant, he is not a skilful man, and he is not someone who wants to get the fans off their seats with a bit of skill. He is there to do a job that means that the team are better off, they run more efficiently, and they are going to have a chance of winning because he is in the team.

“He is first and foremost a team football player, which I love about him. If there’s a battle, he is the man you want on your side.”
