EPL: ‘Embarrassing’, ‘a joke’ – Alan Shearer, Ian Wright slam Ralf Rangnick over Ten Hag comment

Arsenal legend, Ian Wright and Newcastle United legend, Alan Shearer have slammed outgoing Manchester United’s interim boss, Ralf Rangnick over a comment he made concerning Erik ten Hag.

After Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday, Rangnick had told reporters he was not aware the incoming manager was in attendance for the game, saying he would have loved to speak with him.

Wright and Shearer described the interim manager’s handling of the situation as ‘a joke’ and ’embarrassing.’

Ten Hag watched on at Selhurst Park as United were beaten 1-0 to end a sorry season in fitting fashion.

And, Shearer and Wright, who spoke on Match of the Day tore into Rangnick for his comments.

“To hear Ralf Rangnick say he didn’t know he [Ten Hag] was there and saying that he was looking forward to [speaking to him], it’s a joke,” said Wright.

“That’s a joke business, man. That’s just like crazy.”

Shearer seconded Wright’s comments, describing the situation as “embarrassing.” Sums it up, doesn’t it?” said Shearer.

“It’s embarrassing actually!”
