Barcelona defender, Dani Alves, has named Real Madrid striker, Karim Benzema, as the player that should win the Ballon d’Or award this year.
Alves believes Benzema has taken Real Madrid forward this season, adding that the France international deserves to win the 2022 Ballon d’ Or.
Benzema has been impressive for Real Madrid, scoring 43 goals in all competitions for the LaLiga champions so far this season.
The 34-year-old guided Carlo Ancelotti’s side to win the La Liga title this season.
His goal against Manchester City sent Real Madrid to the Champions League final, where they will face Liverpool later this month in Paris.
Benzema is also currently the Champions League top scorer this season with 15 goals so far.
Speaking with Marca about who should win the Ballon d’Or, Alves, Benzema’s long-time Clasico rival, said: “He has every chance of winning it, because of what he is doing. But, the Champions League is going to have a lot of influence. If he goes on to win it, he is a serious candidate, although there are other names too.
“There are players at Manchester City, at Liverpool, and others who can fight for it. He is working for it, because he has taken Real Madrid to places that, in terms of play and other facets, they weren’t reaching before. He has carried the team and deserves this.”
