UCL: Michael Owen predicts Chelsea vs Real Madrid, Villarreal vs Bayern quarter final ties

Former Liverpool, Manchester United and Real Madrid ace, Michael Owen has predicted the upcoming Champions League clash between Chelsea Real Madrid.

Owen backed the European and World Club Cup champions to take a big step to reaching the semi-finals with another victory over the LaLiga giants.

Chelsea were handed a tough quarter final draw, after being pitted against 13-time winners, Real Madrid.

Last time when the two teams met in the competition, it was Thomas Tuchel’s side who came out victorious with a 3-1 win on aggregate in the semi-finals last season.

Real Madrid have changed their manager since then, with Carlo Ancelotti leading them 12 points clear at the top of LaLiga, while they also stunned PSG in the last round of the Champions League.

Nevertheless, Owen expects Chelsea to beat Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

“This is a really interesting tie, particularly with these two having met in last year’s semi-final,” Owen told BetVictor via Metro.

“Chelsea won 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in that tie, but it could have been four or five. Real looked slow and leggy in that tie, and I don’t see huge improvement in them.

“[Karim] Benzema and Vinicius [Junior] have been brilliant this season and they will be a threat. I’m going for a Chelsea win though, 3-1.”

He also predicted the game between Bayern Munich and Spanish underdogs, Villarreal.

“Villarreal have done brilliantly to make it this far.

“They completely deserved the win over Juventus in the last round.

“I would never write Villarreal off. Bayern struggled away from home in the last round against Salzburg, and I can see another draw here. I’m going for 1-1,” Owen added.
