Thomas Tuchel names who caused Chelsea 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid

Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel has said that it was actually his mistakes that led to their 3-1 thrashing by Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

The German said it was a tactical ‘mistake’ on his side by allowing Andreas Christensen to be exposed by Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior.

Karim Benzema scored two brilliant headers to give the Spanish side a two-goal lead after 24 minutes.

Chelsea struggled to get to grips with Vinicius on Real Madrid’s left flank and Kai Havertz managed to pull a goal back.

Tuchel replaced Christensen and N’Golo Kante at half time following a poor performance by the duo.

A mix-up between Edouard Mendy and Antonio Rudiger shortly after the restart then led to Benzema’s third goal of the night.

Addressing his post-match press conference, Tuchel was asked about the decision to play Christensen against Vinicius in the first half before instructing Reece James to play deeper in the second half, the German coach replied, “Yeah, it’s my mistake.

“We changed the formation and wanted to turn things around because I think personally there was enough where we could hurt them.”

Tuchel, however, said the game plan did not work with his player far below their level in every aspect, tactically, individually, in shape, in stiffness, and in challenges.

He said that while trying to change the formation, the Blues made a big mistake through goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy and Antonio Rudiger, thereby killing the game totally.
