Manchester United forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, is the subject of police investigation following their 1-0 defeat at Everton on Saturday.
Ronaldo appeared to smash a fan’s phone as he walked back to the dressing room after the game.
A viral video on social media showed the 37-year-old hitting the device, while he continued walking.
“Inquiries are underway and officers are currently working with Everton Football club to review CCTV footage and are carrying out extensive witness enquiries to establish if an offence has taken place,” a statement from Merseyside Police read in part.
Ronaldo has already taken to his Instagram page to apologize for the incident.
The Portugal captain has also invited the fan to watch a match at Old Trafford.
