2022 World Cup: Amuneke speaks on regretting coaching Nigeria under Eguavoen

Former Nigeria assistant coach, Emmanuel Amuneke, has insisted that he had no regret coaching the Super Eagles.

Amuneke was Austin Eguavoen’s assistant as Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Recall that the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, on Thursday sacked Eguavoen, Amuneke, and the entire Super Eagles coaching crew after Ghana defeated Nigeria to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar.

Speaking to Brila.net, Amuneke said: “I have no regret coming on board to join the technical crew, I would have turned them down, it was an opportunity to serve Nigerians and I hope I will be in a better position next time to serve.

“I was once the coach of Tanzania and it was Nigerians that demanded me to come, so I have no regret accepting the challenge, but as I said, we just have to find the strength to move from here. It is a difficult moment for everyone, including myself.”

Recall that Amuneke had previously rejected calls to serve as assistant to former Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, but changed his mind and accepted the offer as soon as Eguavoen was appointed interim manager in February.
