Ballon d’Or: ‘His numbers are insane’ – De Jong names player that should win award

Former Manchester City midfielder, Nigel de Jong, has backed Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski to win the Ballon d’Or this year.

De Jong believes the Polish striker deserves the award this year because his numbers [goals] are insane.

Lewandowski was the favourite to win the Ballon d’ Or in 2020, having scored 55 goals in all competitions for Bayern Munich, but the prestigious prize was not handed out because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 33-year-old was recently nominated among a 30-man shortlist for this year’s Ballon d’ Or.

Lewandowski will rival the likes of Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi, Chelsea’s Jorginho, Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema, Man United’s Cristiano Ronaldo, among others for the Ballon d’ Or.

“Give the Ballon d’Or to Lewandowski already. His numbers are insane,” De Jong wrote in a tweet via his Twitter handle on Wednesday morning.

The winner of this year’s Ballon d’Or will be announced on November 29.
