Tammy Abraham becomes the first England footballer to confirm he’s fully vaccinated against Covid-19

 

Tammy Abraham has become the first England player to confirm he is fully-vaccinated amid growing concerns in English football over slow vaccine uptake rate.

A number of players declined to to reveal whether they had been double-jabbed, insisting it was a personal and private matter.

But Abraham has confirmed he has taken both jabs, saying: ‘It is a personal choice. People are entitled to do what they want to do with their bodies. For me it was a different situation. I am vaccinated. That is a personal choice.

‘I have contracted the virus before, I am in Italy and for me it is the right thing to do.’

Manager Gareth Southgate will continue to promote the benefits of vaccination while staying out of individual cases.

‘Our medical team would know but they wouldn’t tell me who is and who isn’t (vaccinated),’ Southgate said last week.

‘I don’t think it is going to affect us that much because whenever the players are with us, we are always going to be in a bubble and on a sporting exemption.

‘The bigger issue is going to be players going back to clubs or clubs travelling in certain countries.’

Earlier on Wednesday, Republic of Ireland international Callum Robinson admitted he has chosen not to be vaccinated against Covid-19 despite being twice laid low by the virus.
