Kogi United relegated, looses to DMD in Lokoja


Kogi United on Wednesday lost their last match to DMD in the Nigeria National League.
DMD defeated Kogi United 2-1 in Lokoja to officially confirm the relegation of their opponent.

A first-half mistake from Kogi United goalkeeper Shola Sheshere gave the visitors the lead five minutes into the match through Ali Yusuf.

Kogi United pushed forward to level the game but due to high resistance from DMD, they could not find the back of the net.

The home team, however, got their equalizer in the 23rd minute through Eghe Osas strike in a free-kick from close range.

A controversial penalty call from the centre referee before halftime extended DMD’s lead

Relegated Kogi United mounted pressure in the second half but failed to convert their chances despite the 10 minutes added time.

Shortly after the match, angry fans attacked the centre referee accusing them of being biased in the game.

It took the intervention of men of the Nigeria Police force, stadium securities who whisked him to an unknown destination.
