Carlos Vela is the newest name that will be linked to Barcelona, while the club is looking for support for Luis Suarez. SER Catalunya, the Catalan subsidiary of Cadena SER, was the first to give this news. According to the report, Carlos Vela of the Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC), along with Alvaro Morata, are the two strikers that the club plans to replace in place of Munir. The latter went to Seville after not having reached an agreement on a new contract.
However, it is possible that Vela has become the first option of Barcelona, while Morata is ready to sign with Atlético de Madrid and that the player has abandoned the idea of playing for Blaugrana. In the same way that it would have been with Christian Stuani and Maxi Lopez, any potential negotiation for the Mexican striker will come up against obstacles.
For starters, it is highly unlikely that LAFC will even consider selling Vela. He is his favorite player in a club that has been playing in the league for a season. It is a big attraction in the Los Angeles market considering the Mexican population. Vela himself should press for any negotiation to have an opportunity.
The second and perhaps most important obstacle is that Vela is not an attacker at all. It is an attacker who can play in any wing and who occasionally moves inside. This is how he played with LAFC and how he usually plays with the Mexican national team. Another factor is whether or not you would accept being a part-time player. With Messi, Suárez, Dembele and Coutinho, the playing time will be short. One of the blows to Vela during his stay in Europe was that he made fun of football and saw it for what it was: a job.
If you still have the same mentality, you may be more likely to accept a partial role. A point in his favor is that he knows the league very well. His longest stint in Europe was with Real Sociedad, where he spent six seasons with Antoine Griezmann.
Barcelona is desperate for a “9” backup and, although Carlos Vela is currently on his radar, it would not be surprising if other names appear before the end of the transfer window.
