Barcelona To Pay Extra £89m To Sign Any Liverpool Player

Liverpool reportedly have an agreement in place with Barcelona over the future sale of players.
The Reds sold Philippe Coutinho to Barca in a stunning £142m deal last January.

Coutinho had hoped to quit Anfield for the Catalan giants in the summer of 2017 but Liverpool dug their heels in and refused to let him go,
The Brazilian finally got his wish in January but reports in Spain suggest Liverpool insisted on a transfer clause when they finally agreed the deal.

Radio station Cadena Ser reports, as per AS, that Barca agreed not to sign any Liverpool player for the next three years after signing Coutinho.

The agreement, which would last until 2021, is of course only relevant when Liverpool do not wish to sell their players.

Or Barcelona will have to pay an £89m premium in addition to any transfer fee should they try to sign another Liverpool player before 2020.

The remarkable clause was negotiated by Michael Edwards.
Barcelona were unhappy at the inclusion of the detail, but Edwards insisted and has effectively warded off the threat of the Catalan club raiding Anfield in the short term.

If Barcelona ever moved for Mohamed Salah – whose current market value would conservatively value him at £150 million – the price for Barcelona would be £239 million.
