15-Year-Old JJ Gabriel Makes Manchester United First-Team Debut in Stockholm

It may have lasted only the final eight minutes of Manchester United's 2-1 comeback victory over Atletico Madrid in Stockholm, but it offered fans their first glimpse of highly rated 15-year-old academy prospect JJ Gabriel at senior level.

The teenager's first touch was quickly followed by a crunching challenge from Atletico Madrid and Uruguay defender José María Giménez, who barged him from behind and sent him to the ground. Gabriel briefly checked the impact before bouncing back to his feet and carrying on unfazed.

Initially deployed in the No. 10 role, Gabriel found limited space in central areas but looked more comfortable after moving to the right flank. Understandably showing a few nerves, he miscontrolled a couple of accurate passes from Mason Mount before eventually cutting inside and seeing a shot blocked.

The youngster also combined neatly with Leny Yoro in a tidy passing move before being brought down in the penalty area by a physically stronger defender.

While Gabriel has displayed far more of his attacking talent throughout his academy career, this brief cameo represented another significant milestone. Considering most teenagers his age are preparing to return to school for their GCSE studies, the 15-year-old handled the occasion with maturity and gave Manchester United supporters another reason to be excited about his future.
