Boxing legend Mike Tyson says he will always back Tyson Fury in a heavyweight showdown against Anthony Joshua, admitting his admiration for the "Gypsy King" makes it impossible for him to pick against the former world champion.
Speaking to The Ring Magazine, Tyson shared his thoughts after both British heavyweights completed their final tune-up bouts ahead of their long-awaited domestic clash, with promoter Eddie Hearn confirming that contracts for the blockbuster fight have already been signed.
"If Tyson comes in right and avoids those punches, it's going to be interesting," Tyson said.
"Joshua's a fast puncher. I love Tyson Fury. That's why I can never go against him."
Joshua was given an early scare during his outing in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, after being floored twice within the opening 20 seconds of the first round by previously unbeaten Albanian Kristian Prenga, who entered the contest with a perfect record of 20 knockouts from 20 professional victories.
The 36-year-old, however, showcased his resilience and experience, recovering impressively to stop Prenga in the second round. The victory improved Joshua's professional record to 30 wins from 34 fights, including 27 knockouts.
Despite the emphatic comeback, the two early knockdowns are likely to provide Fury's camp with valuable encouragement as preparations continue for the all-British heavyweight showdown.
Fury, meanwhile, enjoyed a far more straightforward evening in Thailand, cruising to a seventh-round stoppage victory over 46-year-old Polish veteran Mariusz Wach in an untelevised bout.
With both fighters successfully navigating their final warm-up contests, anticipation continues to build for one of the most eagerly awaited heavyweight clashes in British boxing history.
