Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika is edging closer to a move to Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, with the German club stepping up their pursuit by improving their offer for the Club Brugge midfielder amid competition from Saudi Pro League outfit Al Ittihad.
According to Bild, Frankfurt have increased their bid to around €9m in an attempt to convince Club Brugge to sanction the transfer during the current window. However, the offer still falls short of the Belgian club’s asking price and is below the fee they paid to sign the Nigerian midfielder.
Onyedika, who is under contract with Club Brugge until June 2027, is valued at €23m by Transfermarkt, reflecting the Belgian champions’ reluctance to accept a significantly lower offer for one of their key players.
Frankfurt have monitored the 25-year-old for more than a year and believe this transfer window presents their best opportunity to secure his signature. With no breakthrough in contract renewal talks, Club Brugge risk seeing his market value diminish as his deal enters its final stages.
The Bundesliga club are eager to reinforce their midfield after conceding 65 league goals last season—the highest total among teams that finished in the top half of the table. They view Onyedika’s defensive qualities, ball-winning ability and composure in transition as ideal attributes to strengthen the squad alongside new signing Noel Aseko.
The Nigerian international reportedly earns an annual salary of €677,851 at Club Brugge, a financial commitment prospective suitors will also need to consider.
Onyedika would arrive in Germany with considerable European experience, having featured in 24 UEFA Champions League matches, five Europa League games and 13 UEFA Conference League appearances. Internationally, he was part of the Nigeria squad that finished runners-up at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
