Newcastle United have completed the signing of highly rated Monaco midfielder Aladji Bamba in a deal worth up to £34 million.
The 20-year-old Frenchman has signed a five-year contract with the Magpies after successfully completing his medical on Tyneside on Thursday.
Speaking after sealing the move, Bamba expressed his excitement about joining the Premier League club.
"I was very excited when I heard Newcastle were interested in signing me," he said. "I know about the history of the club and I've already visited the stadium, which is amazing. I can't wait to play there and create special moments with the fans.
"I'm excited to test myself in a new league, the biggest league in the world. I learned a lot last season and now I feel ready for this new opportunity. I will give my all for this club."
Bamba enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Monaco last season, making his professional debut before impressing in both Ligue 1 and the UEFA Champions League. His performances quickly established him as one of France's brightest young midfield prospects.
Among Ligue 1 midfielders who played at least 500 minutes last season, Bamba ranked among the league's top five for duels won (9.1 per game), tackles (3.6), successful take-ons (1.6), and aerial duels won (1.9), underlining his all-action style in midfield.
Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe welcomed the arrival of the promising youngster, describing him as an exciting addition with significant room for development.
