WBC heavyweight champion Agit Kabayel has thrown down the gauntlet to Anthony Joshua, saying he is ready to defend his world title against the British-Nigerian star once Joshua's long-awaited showdown with Tyson Fury is out of the way.
Joshua and Fury are expected to finally settle their long-running rivalry in November, although the date, venue and promotional details are yet to be confirmed.
Before that blockbuster clash, both heavyweights are scheduled for tune-up fights on the same weekend. Fury is set to face Mariusz Wach in Pattaya, Thailand, on July 24, while Joshua takes on Kristian Prenga in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, a day later.
Victory in both bouts would pave the way for the highly anticipated all-British showdown, with the winner likely to pursue a world title opportunity. Kabayel has now emerged as a potential opponent, offering either fighter a shot at his WBC crown.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the German, who has previously sparred with both Joshua and Fury, said he is willing to wait for the winner before making his first title defence.
"Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, when you think you have a chance to be a three-time world champion, let's do it. Kabayel will wait for you," he said.
"First of all, I think all the fans, especially the British fans, want to see Anthony Joshua versus Tyson Fury. After that, we can see who is best suited to fight me.
"It's a huge fight. We can stage it in Germany in a stadium or in the UK in a stadium."
Kabayel was elevated from interim to full WBC heavyweight champion after Oleksandr Usyk vacated the belt to avoid mandatory title defences, handing the unbeaten German the first world championship reign of his career.
