Italy Could Make Financial Exception to Land Guardiola

Pep Guardiola has held talks over becoming Italy's next head coach, with Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) president Giovanni Malagò confirming that financial "exceptions" could be be made to secure his appointment.

The former Manchester City manager, who left the club this summer after a trophy-laden 10-year spell, is among the candidates to replace Gennaro Gattuso, who resigned in April following Italy's failure to qualify for a third straight World Cup.

Malagò confirmed discussions have taken place but stressed that no agreement has been reached. Former Italy boss Roberto Mancini and ex-midfielder Andrea Pirlo are also being considered for the role.
