Carlos Queiroz Steps Down as Ghana Coach After World Cup Elimination

0

Carlos Queiroz announced on Sunday that he has stepped down as Ghana head coach following the Black Stars' elimination from the FIFA World Cup at the Round of 32.

Ghana's campaign ended with a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in Kansas City on Friday, with the Black Stars managing just eight shots throughout the contest.

The well-travelled Portuguese tactician, who previously guided Iran at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, reflected on his brief spell in charge with a mix of pride and regret.

"I leave this journey with pride in what we achieved, but also with the healthy dissatisfaction of those who always wanted more," Queiroz said.

He urged Ghana to continue building for the future, stressing that the team's long-term success depends on more than performances on the pitch.

"The future of the Black Stars will not be built only on the pitch," he said.

"Reaching a higher level should never be the destination—it should be the beginning of even greater ambitions."

"The Black Stars' success must start off the field by creating the best possible environment to prepare, protect and develop Ghana's extraordinary football talent."

Queiroz was appointed Ghana coach in April after Otto Addo was dismissed, but his tenure lasted just a few months, ending with the Black Stars' Round of 32 exit at the World Cup.
