Arsenal Expected to Sign Newcastle Captain Bruno Guimarães

Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimarães is increasingly expected to complete a move to Arsenal this summer, with multiple sources indicating growing confidence that a deal will be reached.

The Brazil international has made it clear he is keen to join the Premier League champions, while Arsenal remain optimistic about securing the signature of the 28-year-old midfielder.

Guimarães has been one of the Gunners' primary transfer targets throughout the summer after establishing himself as a key figure at Newcastle, where he has scored 31 goals in 195 appearances since arriving from Lyon in January 2022.

Arsenal will, however, need to improve on the £70 million offer they submitted earlier this month if they are to persuade Newcastle to sell.

Although Guimarães is due to return to pre-season training with Newcastle in the coming days, sources insist no revised bid has yet been lodged, while the Magpies maintain that formal club-to-club negotiations have not taken place.

Despite that, Arsenal are hopeful of reaching an agreement in the coming days, with the overall package expected to rise to around £80 million.

The growing optimism over the transfer is understood to be unrelated to Eddie Howe's recent departure as Newcastle head coach.

Earlier in the transfer window, Arsenal explored a move for Morgan Rogers but refused to exceed their valuation of £80 million. The club were later given the opportunity to match Chelsea's £117 million offer for the Aston Villa midfielder but opted against doing so.

Newcastle now face the prospect of losing another influential player following Sandro Tonali's move to Tottenham Hotspur and Anthony Gordon's transfer to Barcelona.

Howe stepped down from his role on Thursday after five years in charge, with Al-Ahli manager Matthias Jaissle widely expected to succeed him at St James' Park.
