Arsenal will assess William Saliba's back injury when the defender returns to the club following France's FIFA World Cup campaign.
The France international has been managing the back problem for several weeks and carried the injury into the tournament. The issue appeared to worsen during France's semi-final defeat to Spain, with Saliba forced off after just 30 minutes.
The Gunners are expected to evaluate the severity of the injury upon his return to London, with surgery among the options under consideration. However, an operation would likely sideline the centre-back for an extended period.
Saliba, 25, made 50 appearances in all competitions last season, playing a pivotal role as Arsenal ended their 22-year wait for the Premier League title and reached the UEFA Champions League final.
Speaking earlier during the World Cup, Saliba admitted he had been playing through discomfort.
"I've had some minor niggles for several months," he said. "I've been gritting my teeth because there was the Champions League and the Premier League. The World Cup only comes around once every four years, so you've got to grit your teeth."
Saliba missed France's final Group Stage match against Norway before returning for the knockout rounds.
France will face England in the third-place play-off on Saturday.
