Former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier has admitted he needs help after being arrested in Atlanta on allegations of public drunkenness.
Body camera footage showed an emotional and agitated Poirier confronting police at an airport after reportedly being removed from a flight. The retired MMA star was later arrested and released on bail.
In a heartfelt statement, Poirier revealed he has struggled to adjust to life after retirement, acknowledging that alcohol has become a problem.
"I'm at the point where I need some help," he said, adding that he refuses to let alcohol have the same damaging impact on his life that it had on his father's.
The 37-year-old retired in 2025 after a celebrated 16-year career, earning victories over elite opponents including Conor McGregor, Max Holloway and Justin Gaethje. Widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters never to win an undisputed UFC title, Poirier also built a reputation for his charitable work and professionalism outside the octagon.
Now, his focus is on recovery and taking the necessary steps to regain control of his life after a difficult transition away from the sport.
