Defending champions New Zealand eliminated Scotland from the Women’s T20 World Cup after an impressive performance in Bristol kept their hopes of reaching the semi-finals alive.
Scotland posted 131-7 after being put in to bat, with 21-year-old Darcey Carter once again starring. The opener, one of the breakout players of the tournament, scored an unbeaten 72 off 52 balls, hitting eight fours and a six. Sarah Bryce added 25, but Scotland struggled to build further partnerships.
New Zealand looked in control of the chase early on, although they wobbled at 26-3 after both openers were dismissed cheaply and Sophie Devine was bowled by Rachel Slater.
However, Izzy Sharp and Brooke Halliday steadied the innings and gradually swung momentum back in New Zealand’s favour. Sharp brought up a composed half-century before falling just one hit short of victory, while Maddy Green helped see the White Ferns home.
New Zealand eventually secured a six-wicket win with 10 balls to spare. They now face hosts England in their final group game on 27 June, needing victory and other results to go their way to reach the semi-finals.
