Real Madrid Complete the Signing of Silva on a Free Transfer

Real Madrid have completed the signing of midfielder Bernardo Silva on a two-year contract, reuniting the Portuguese international with manager José Mourinho.

The 31-year-old joins Los Blancos on a free transfer after bringing an end to his trophy-laden nine-year spell at Manchester City. Silva had been heavily linked with a move to Spain, with both Barcelona and Atlético Madrid reportedly interested in securing his signature.

Silva becomes Real Madrid's second arrival of the summer, following the £52 million signing of defender Marc Cucurella from Chelsea.

The Spanish giants are looking to strengthen their squad after a disappointing campaign in which they failed to win a trophy. They finished eight points behind La Liga champions Barcelona and were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

Silva is currently with Portugal at the FIFA World Cup and is expected to play a key role in his country's campaign.

Real Madrid are also understood to be targeting outgoing Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries, while France international Ibrahima Konaté is reportedly set to join the club after departing Liverpool. Meanwhile, defender Antonio Rüdiger has committed his future to the club by signing a contract extension that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until 2027.
