Raducanu Cuts Practice Short Amid Wimbledon Fitness Concerns

0

Emma Raducanu's hopes of being fully fit for Wimbledon have been thrown into doubt after the British number one was forced to cut short her practice session on Saturday.

The 23-year-old also postponed her pre-tournament media duties after ending a practice set against Russia's Anna Kalinskaya with just 10 minutes remaining.

Raducanu, seeded 30th at the All England Club, is scheduled to begin her Wimbledon campaign against Croatia's Antonia Ruzic on Court One on Monday (13:00 BST).

The 2021 US Open champion missed training on Thursday and Friday due to what is believed to be a shin injury. She returned to the practice courts on Saturday to assess her fitness, wearing heavy strapping on her lower right leg.

During an hour-long session with her coaching team at Aorangi Park, Raducanu appeared cautious and avoided putting excessive strain on her movement. She then moved to Court Three for a practice set with Kalinskaya but, after losing the opening four games, decided she could not continue, raising fresh concerns over her fitness ahead of the Championships.
