Former Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella has said he would happily welcome former teammate Enzo Fernandez to Real Madrid amid growing speculation linking the Argentine midfielder with a move to the Spanish giants this summer.
Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Fernandez during the current transfer window, although the club has yet to make official contact with Chelsea over a potential deal.
The 25-year-old is understood to be open to joining Los Blancos, having admitted in a revealing interview back in March that he would be interested in a move to the Santiago Bernabéu. Personal terms are not expected to be an obstacle if negotiations progress.
Chelsea are not actively looking to sell Fernandez, but the Blues are believed to be willing to consider offers that match their valuation. Reports from the end of May claimed the West London club would demand around £120 million for the Argentina international.
Cucurella, who completed a move to Real Madrid in mid-June after Chelsea accepted a package worth £51.7 million (£47.4 million upfront plus £4.3 million in potential add-ons), was asked about Fernandez during an interview with Spanish outlet AS.
When asked whether Fernandez had congratulated him on his move to Madrid, the Spain international said:
"He congratulated me. We're great friends and we've built a very good relationship.
"If there are rumours about Enzo joining Real Madrid, I wish my friend all the best. And if he wants to take that step, then he's welcome. I don't know anything, though—we'll see."
Real Madrid are expected to strengthen their midfield this summer, with Fernandez among several names under consideration.
Meanwhile, reports also suggest that manager José Mourinho is a long-time admirer of the Argentine, although the Spanish club is believed to be assessing several midfield options before making a final decision.
