William Troost-Ekong has expressed strong confidence that the Nigeria national football team will successfully secure qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), insisting the squad has both the quality and mentality needed to reach the tournament and compete at a high level.
The Super Eagles captain stressed that the team remains focused on the task ahead despite the growing expectations from fans and the pressure that comes with being one of Africa’s most successful football nations. According to him, Nigeria’s current group of players is capable of delivering consistent performances if they remain disciplined, united, and committed throughout the qualification campaign.
Troost-Ekong highlighted the importance of maintaining concentration in every match, noting that AFCON qualifying campaigns are often unpredictable and require maximum effort against every opponent, regardless of reputation or ranking. He added that the squad understands the responsibility of representing Nigeria and is determined to restore pride and dominance on the continental stage.
He also pointed to the blend of experienced players and emerging talents in the team as a major advantage, saying it creates healthy competition and balance within the squad. This mix, he believes, will be crucial in navigating the challenges of qualification and building momentum toward future tournaments.
The defender further called on fans to continue supporting the team, especially during difficult moments, as their backing plays a key role in motivating the players. He reiterated that the ultimate goal is not just qualification but also building a strong foundation that can compete for the AFCON title and other international honours.
With qualification campaigns ahead, Troost-Ekong’s comments reflect growing optimism within the Super Eagles camp as they aim to secure their place at AFCON 2027 and reaffirm their status as one of Africa’s football powerhouses.
