President Federation Cup produced another major upset as Sunshine Stars U-19 celebrated a dramatic 2-1 victory over Niger Tornadoes in the Round of 64.
The young Sunshine Stars side shocked the more experienced opponents to book a place in the Round of 32, continuing their impressive run in the competition. The result has been described as one of the biggest surprises of the round, alongside Sapele Lions’ elimination of Katsina United.
Sunshine Stars U-19 have been building momentum in recent months through strong performances in youth competitions and state cup matches. The Akure-based team previously won their playoff tie against Harmony FC and have also impressed in the N-Youth League with several high-scoring victories.
The President Federation Cup remains Nigeria’s oldest domestic knockout football competition, famous for giant-killing performances from lower-division and youth sides against established clubs.
