Pep Guardiola has criticised the use of VAR in the Premier League, describing the technology as “a flip of a coin” after another round of controversial decisions in England’s top flight.
The Manchester City manager questioned the consistency of VAR rulings, saying similar incidents often produce different outcomes depending on the match officials involved. Guardiola admitted the technology was introduced to reduce mistakes but argued that debates over refereeing decisions still continue every week.
Speaking after City’s latest league match, Guardiola said clubs and managers are often left confused by interpretations of handballs, fouls, and offside calls, insisting football needs clearer and more consistent officiating standards.
