Plymouth Argyle striker Owen Oseni has opened up on his shock Super Eagles invitation, admitting he never expected a call-up to the Nigerian national team after playing in England’s third tier.
The 23-year-old earned a place in Eric Chelle’s squad for the upcoming Unity Cup in London following an impressive end to the season, where he scored three goals in Plymouth’s final four League One matches.
“I know I had an alright season, but to get called up for a country where there’s more than 240 million people was quite a big deal for me,” Oseni told BBC Sport.
Born in Ireland to a Nigerian father and Ivorian mother, Oseni was also eligible to represent Ivory Coast and the Republic of Ireland, but said accepting Nigeria’s invitation was an easy decision.
