Itauma’s Speed Will Trouble Hrgovic — Allen

Heavyweight veteran Dave Allen believes Filip Hrgovic may struggle to cope with Moses Itauma’s speed if the two fighters meet in the bout being targeted for August 8.

Allen, who was stopped in three rounds by Hrgovic earlier this month, gained first-hand experience of the Croatian’s power and skill when they squared off in the main event of a Queensberry Promotions card in Doncaster. Despite praising Hrgovic’s quality, the British heavyweight believes Itauma’s pace could prove decisive.

“I think Itauma might be too fast for him, just too fast. But you have to be a good one to beat him. He’s very good — better than I thought,” Allen said on his YouTube channel.

The comments underscore the growing anticipation surrounding a potential clash between Hrgovic and Itauma, one of boxing’s most highly rated young heavyweights.

Itauma, widely regarded as Frank Warren’s standout heavyweight prospect, strengthened his reputation in March with an emphatic fifth-round stoppage victory over the durable Jermaine Franklin. The 21-year-old’s blend of speed, power and composure has fuelled expectations that he could soon challenge the division’s established contenders.

Should the proposed August showdown materialise, it would represent Itauma’s toughest test yet against an experienced and proven operator in Hrgovic, who remains one of the heavyweight division’s most dangerous contenders.
