Andrea Kimi Antonelli set the pace in Canadian Grand Prix practice, leading a Mercedes one-two ahead of teammate George Russell in a session heavily disrupted by multiple red flags, including a dramatic collision involving Alexander Albon.
Albon’s session ended early after his Williams Racing car struck a groundhog on the exit of Turn Seven, sending him into the barriers and causing significant damage. The incident brought out one of three red flags during the hour-long practice.
The session was also halted after mechanical issues for Liam Lawson and a crash for Esteban Ocon, underlining a chaotic opening practice in Montreal.
Despite the interruptions, Antonelli impressed again, edging Russell by 0.142 seconds after a strong showing that highlighted Mercedes’ upgraded pace at the circuit. Lewis Hamilton followed in third, while reigning champion Max Verstappen finished fifth.
The session also saw encouraging pace from McLaren duo Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, as teams continue preparations for sprint qualifying later in the weekend.
