Tottenham Hotspur survival hopes dealt blow by late Brighton & Hove Albion equaliser

Tottenham Hotspur had their Premier League survival hopes dealt a major blow after conceding a 95th-minute equaliser in a dramatic draw with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Spurs looked on course to end their 15-match winless league run when Xavi Simons curled in a late goal with 13 minutes remaining, sparking hopes of a vital win that could have lifted them out of the bottom three.

Earlier, both sides had chances in an open game, with Brighton hitting the woodwork and forcing saves, while Spurs also threatened before the break. Brighton even levelled through a stunning strike from Kaoru Mitoma, but Spurs regained the lead late on.

However, just when Tottenham thought they had done enough, substitute Georginio Rutter struck deep into stoppage time to silence the home crowd and rescue a point for Brighton.

The result leaves Spurs still stuck in the relegation zone with only a few games left, increasing pressure in their battle to avoid a first top-flight relegation since 1977.
