George Russell says Formula 1 “would not want to lose” Max Verstappen, but he would understand if the four-time world champion decides to leave the sport.
Verstappen has raised concerns at the Japanese Grand Prix about the current Formula 1 rules and new power units, saying the changes have made driving less enjoyable and have led him to think about his future in the sport.
Russell said that while Verstappen is one of the biggest stars in F1 and someone fans enjoy racing against, it would still be understandable if he chose to step away because of his frustrations.
He added that Formula 1 is bigger than any single driver, but losing someone of Verstappen’s quality would still be a big blow to the sport.
