West Indies cricket team will fly home on commercial flights after a “distressing” wait in Kolkata following their exit from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
The team had been stranded since 1 March because a charter flight arranged by the International Cricket Council for both West Indies and South Africa national cricket team was repeatedly delayed due to global travel disruption.
Cricket West Indies said the continued uncertainty became distressing for players and staff, so the board decided to arrange commercial flights to ensure their safe return home. Some squad members have already left, with others scheduled to depart soon.
