Vaughan says McCullum and Key were lucky to keep their Jobs after the Ashes review

Former England captain Michael Vaughan says head coach Brendon McCullum and managing director Rob Key were “very lucky” not to lose their jobs after England’s 4-1 Ashes defeat in Australia.

Despite poor performances, criticism over planning, and off-field issues, McCullum, Key, and captain Ben Stokes will all remain in their roles. ECB chief Richard Gould said sacking them would have been the “easy option.”

Vaughan said most teams wouldn’t keep their management after such a poor Ashes tour, adding that while England have had exciting moments, they haven’t won enough.

He also suggested the ECB now wants more attention to detail, after criticism that the team had become too relaxed under McCullum and Key.
