Francis Ngannou has left the Professional Fighters League and is now a free agent in MMA.
The former Ultimate Fighting Championship champion joined the PFL in 2023 but fought only once for the promotion. He also helped with the league’s expansion into Africa.
Ngannou, 39, has not fought in MMA since October 2024. The PFL confirmed the split and wished him success in the next stage of his combat sports career.
The Cameroonian star left the UFC in 2023 in a major move, pushing for fighters to have more control over their careers and better pay. He previously said the money from two boxing fights earned him more than his entire 14-fight UFC career.
Ngannou could now return to the UFC, where the heavyweight division has struggled for stability since he left. He might also appear on Netflix’s first MMA event on 16 May, where Ronda Rousey is set to face Gina Carano in her comeback.
