Clinical Welbeck Earns Points While Forest Slide Continues

0

Danny Welbeck grabbed his 10th Premier League goal of the season as Brighton beat Nottingham Forest to claim back-to-back wins for the first time since November.

In a frantic start at Amex Stadium that saw three goals scored in the opening 15 minutes, Diego Gomez put Brighton ahead with an angled strike before Morgan Gibbs-White hammered in a leveller from the edge of the box.

But the hosts restored their lead just 105 seconds later through a clever turn and finish by Welbeck, who has now equalled his goal tally from last season.

The Seagulls set the tempo from there and should have scored more, while Forest struggled to break forward and create any meaningful chances in front of goal.

The visitors pushed for a late equaliser, but substitute Taiwo Awoniyi squandered their best opportunity when he sent a bullet header well wide of the target.

After ending their six-game winless run with victory at Brentford last week, it was another performance that will help to ease the pressure on manager Fabian Hurzeler as they move up to 11th - just three points behind eighth-placed Everton.

Vitor Pereira, meanwhile, is still searching for his first Premier League win as Forest boss, with Forest teetering two points above West Ham in the relegation zone.
