Sesko and Lammens boost Man Utd’s hopes of reaching the Champions League

Michael Carrick says Benjamin Sesko is improving step by step at Manchester United — and his recent performances are giving the club real hope of qualifying for the Champions League.

Sesko has come off the bench in the past two matches to make a big impact. Without him, United would likely have lost to West Ham and drawn with Everton. Instead, his goals have helped push United into fourth place, three points behind Aston Villa and three ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool.

His dramatic late volley against West Ham earned a point, while his winning goal in the 1-0 victory over Everton showed his speed and composure. After sprinting nearly the length of the pitch, he calmly finished a pass from Bryan Mbeumo. Carrick praised it as a “ruthless” finish.

Sesko now has eight goals this season. He struggled earlier under Ruben Amorim, who signed him from RB Leipzig for £73.7m, but has scored six goals in his last seven games.

Even though many fans think he should be starting regularly, Carrick says he values Sesko’s attitude and impact, whether he plays five minutes or the full 90.

Sesko himself says he believes in his ability and is ready to deliver whenever he is called upon.
