Emma Raducanu retired from her first-round match against Camila Osorio at the Qatar Open, just two days after losing the Transylvania Open final. The British number one called for the trainer after going 2-0 down in the third set and couldn’t continue.
Raducanu had won the first set 6-2 but lost the second 6-4. She had also revealed after the Transylvania final that a chest infection was affecting her fitness.
Against Osorio, Raducanu started strong, taking a 3-0 lead and winning the first set. Osorio fought back in the second, taking the set 6-4. Raducanu struggled early in the deciding set, and after being broken again, she called the trainer and eventually retired from the match.
Raducanu has faced ongoing injuries and inconsistency since her 2021 US Open win. She retired in the first round of the Wuhan Open last October due to health issues and split with coach Francis Roig in January after a second-round exit at the Australian Open. Roig was her ninth coach since 2021.
