Henry Pollock got his big break in the final round of last year’s Six Nations, stepping onto the Principality Stadium pitch as England dominated. The young back row could hardly have asked for a better debut.
“With Ellis Genge telling me, ‘Do your thing, this is your time,’ I felt confident to just be myself,” said the 20-year-old. Pollock certainly made the most of it, scoring two tries and becoming England men’s youngest-ever try-scorer, even though he had just 30 minutes of Six Nations experience.
Since then, Pollock has added a Champions Cup Final, a British and Irish Lions tour, and an Autumn Nations campaign to his résumé. He is now gearing up to shake things up against Wales in England’s opening game of this year’s tournament.
Despite his fast rise, Pollock is again starting on the replacements bench for Saturday’s match at the Allianz Stadium. But the excitement is clear.
“I grew up watching the Six Nations. It’s one of the best tournaments in the world and so much fun. Playing in it is a dream come true,” he said. “I’m just trying to enjoy every moment and give everything I have on the pitch.”
