Jack Pinnington Jones saw his impressive run at the Dallas Open end in the quarter-finals with a straight-sets defeat to former US Open champion Marin Cilic.
The 22-year-old had come through qualifying and claimed notable wins over Flavio Cobolli and Eliot Spizzirri before losing 6-1 6-4 to Cilic in his first ATP Tour quarter-final. Cilic will next face either Taylor Fritz or Sebastian Korda.
Elsewhere at the Qatar Open, Canada’s Victoria Mboko beat Jelena Ostapenko to reach the final, where she will meet Karolina Muchova.
